Case Study
DNW (Dix Noonan Webb)

Client Requirement:
Getting high value printed items to market quickly was becoming a challenge for DNW, specialist auctioneers and valuers dealing in collectable medals and coins. The firm was routinely producing catalogues of up to 350 pages, in print runs of up to 1,000 copies a time prior to auction, to meet the demands of a varied customer base.
The key issue was turnaround time – following design, the time involved in proofing, amending, litho printing and mailing the catalogues would take up to two weeks; and with that kind of lead time, the inclusion of last minute lots was impossible, with potential additions put back to subsequent auction promotions.
The Solution:
Through our 'on-demand' digital production technology, BCQ has reduced the turnaround time dramatically. DNW simply send their digital artwork to BCQ, and proofs are returned within 24 hours. The catalogues are then typically printed, bound and despatched to the collector in four days; so from receipt of artwork to mailing, in under a week. The Benefits:
- DNW can leave open the acceptance of lots for much longer, increasing the opportunity to attract business right up to the last minute.
- Greatly improved catalogue despatch times.
- Ability to send out smaller targeted catalogues as digital print production tecnologies allow smaller quantities to be produced economically.
- In the near future, BCQ will be personalising the catalogues to target key potential purchasers, highlighting certain content according to their buying habits.
- The entire production process is costing DNW a third less than before.
"BCQ have transformed our ability to market our collectables. Catalogue production is now fast, efficient, of a higher standard and more cost-effective. We're looking forward to working with them on new one-to-one techniques, to reach out to collectors in a more meaningful way. "
