MyDailyMirror.com

Client Requirement:
Mirrorpix, part of the Trinity Mirror Group, needed an e-commerce website which enables consumers to find and purchase any given front page from the past 103 years of 'Daily Mirror' newspapers, which could be any one of 35,000!

The organisation also needed the capability for reproduction of the front pages on a variety of printed goods to be sold online.

BCQ were faced with gathering the electronically-stored front pages from a number of locations; file names had few common denominators.

The Solution:
Initially, BCQ standardised the file naming protocol, a task in itself.

From that point, we designed, developed and built a vibrant, transactional website called 'MyDailyMirror.com', with a light-hearted but punchy design that plays on desire for nostalgia and commemoration.

Customers can select their front page and have it printed on posters, canvas prints, greetings cards, framed prints or T-shirts, and make their purchase via an online shopping facility.

The Benefits:
  • BCQ created an e-commerce platform which enables complete content management, so Mirrorpix can incrementally increase their online trading presence, as they introduce new products or adapt to a changing marketplace.
  • BCQ manages the whole of the site for Mirrorpix, processing all customer orders, production and despatch of goods. All items are printed on demand, so there's no stock or storage issues and we can be completely reactive to orders.
  • The site also has marketing tools built-in; such as the ability to send e-cards of any of the front pages or images to friends or relatives free-of-charge; the e-cards incorporate click-throughs to the MDM site to increase selling opportunities.
  • Pictures from the Mirrorpix archive are also available to purchase through the site, and includes images of celebrities from the world of entertainment, sport and politics, to name a few. Again, these are reproducible onto a variety of items.
  • BCQ have built in a sophisticated back end system which not only allows full content management, but also holds all orders, products and order history for each customer.
  • Customers are saved the task of re-entering details for each order placed, as they have their own account area, through which they can also track the progress of their orders online.
  • Mirrorpix now have a searchable front page picture archive.

"BCQ have more than met the brief; our front pages are more popular than ever. But they've really opened up the potential for what can be done with online trading and fulfilment for Mirrorpix. The site is fun, easy to use and one of a kind. "
